Our Bottled Water Filtration Process

Every drop of Endless Waters bottled water passes through a 10-stage, state-of-the-art purification system. The cornerstone of the system is a dual-pass reverse osmosis system that removes virtually every impurity from our bottled water, resulting in the purest bottled water on the market. In order to achieve ultimate purity for our bottled water, our water passes through a series of pre-filters just to be good enough to enter the reverse osmosis.

10 Micron Pleated Paper Filter

Any particles larger than 10 microns are trapped in the filter. This captures a surprising amount of sediment and grit. It doesn’t take long for these filters to be the same shade of rusty brown as the inside of the water pipes that carry water to your house, and, as a result, for the water to already be cleaner than ever.

Ion Exchange (water softening)

After the 10 micron pleated paper filter purification step removes the larger particles, the water enters the ion exchange portion of our bottled water filtration system. This step enables us to remove the metal particles from the water, which is good not only from a purity standpoint, but important for the following steps of the purification process to work effectively. We use a resin filled with weak positively charged potassium and sodium ions to attract and capture the highly positively charged metal ions.

Activated Carbon

The next phase in the purification process involves activated carbon. Activated carbon is used to remove chlorine, trihalomethanes (a chlorine byproduct) and organic and volatile organic contaminants. It is through a process called adsorption that these contaminants are removed. Chlorine is one of the main taste offenders in the tap water. The chlorine is added by the water authority in order to disinfect it and keep it bacteria free on its trip through the aging pipes. The chlorine reacts with organic material in the water and causes the formation of trihalomethanes (THMs), which are a known carcinogen (cancer causing agent). Our oversized activated granular carbon bed allows our water the necessary contact time to purify the water by removing the chlorine and its dangerous byproducts.

5 Micron Carbon Block Filter

Similar to the mechanical filtration in the first step, but made from activated carbon, this stage of our bottled water purification process uses a 5 micron carbon block filter to capture any particle larger than 5 microns.

1 Micron Carbon Block Filter

The exact same concept as the 5 micron carbon block filters, this phase of our filtration process filters the water by removing particles larger than 1 micron. At this point, our water is already purer than most bottled waters, but we’re just getting started.

Ultraviolet Sterilization

In order to ensure that the bottled water we produce stays pure, and cannot become contaminated, we need to sterilize it. Rather than using chlorine employed by the water authority to disinfect (we just filtered that out!), Endless Waters uses two chemical free disinfection methods. The first of these two methods is Ultraviolet(UV) sterilization. As our bottled water passes through the UV chamber, the genetic material of bacteria, viruses and other biological contaminants is destroyed so that the organisms can’t reproduce. The sterilized organisms are removed in the reverse osmosis stage of our purification process.

Reverse Osmosis

All of the steps leading up to reverse osmosis allow the reverse osmosis phase to work as efficiently as possible. The reverse osmosis by itself can produce the high quality water that Endless Waters demands. However, without all the purification steps before the reverse osmosis, it would work more slowly and clog its filters more quickly. Because we remove what we can before entering the reverse osmosis, we can get maximum efficiency from our reverse osmosis system. We challenge anyone to find bottled water more pure than Endless Waters.

Ozonation

The second of our chemical-free disinfectants is ozone. Ozone is an amazing thing. Through cold plasma discharge we can split naturally occurring oxygen(O2) molecules which then recombine to a high energy state Ozone(O3). The ozone dissipates from the water due to its 18 minute half-life, leaving nothing but oxygen behind. However, while in the high energy state, Ozone is 1500 times more powerful than chlorine as an oxidant meaning our water stays free of contamination.

Recirculation

The only substance our water comes into contact with after it has been purified is stainless steel. The stainless steel holding tanks and recirculation loop ensure that nothing can leach into our water and that there can be no cross contamination of our finished product. The water in the holding tanks is constantly circulated and ozone is added to maintain the sterile environment.

Bottling

The stainless steel, state-of-the-art bottling line sanitizes, disinfects and rinses the bottles before filling them with our high purity water. You can be sure that once the cap goes on the bottle, there is nothing but clean-tasting, super purified Endless Waters inside.
